What does manual mean in product intelligence?
Manual means people decide and start every step while the system only stores the records.
A spreadsheet of requests is manual. So is a shared inbox, tagged Slack channel or folder of call recordings. Nothing happens unless someone opens it and takes action.
Manual doesn't always mean slow. A person who is on top of the work can move quickly. The defining point is that every step waits for them.
Why it matters for product builders
Manual systems often fail quietly. They work while volume is low and the person running them is available. They stop when either condition changes.
