What is a feature request?
A feature request is a customer asking you to add or change something. It usually names a fix, not the problem behind it.
“Add CSV export” may mean “I can't get my data into my reporting workflow.” Export is 1 possible answer. A report, share link or integration might work too.
A feature request isn't a bug, where something fails to work as intended. It also isn't a complaint, which may not ask for any change.
Why it matters for product builders
If you build requests literally, the most vocal customers shape the product. If you find the problem underneath, many requests collapse into a smaller number of decisions.
What changes in AI-first products
Cheap building makes literal requests tempting. The trap is the same: building the named feature quickly doesn't make it the right answer.
